Science - Animals
In Science, Year 1 have been learning about 'Animals including humans'. We have looked at identifying and classifying different animals. We have talked about things they eat and whether they are carnivores, herbivores or omnivores.
We have also looked at our bodies and looked at different body parts. We have learnt about the senses and how we use those senses everyday. We carried out an investigation too using our sense of touch, sight, smell and taste. We had to identify the flavour of four different types of crisps. Our senses were very good at helping us identify the flavours. We found that our sense of smell and tastes were the best senses to help us.
Art - Shapes
In Art we have been using different types of marks and shapes to make different artwork. We used lots of different lines and shapes to create an underwater scene. We used pencils, chalks and oil pastels. We are very proud of our artwork.
Maths - Numbers
We have been looking at numbers 1 to 20 in our Maths lessons and have been practising our counting skills up to 20. We have also been making numbers 11 to 20 with our resources.
Science - Seasonal Changes
We are looking at seasonal changes this half term. We have planted some crocus, snowdrops and daffodil bulbs for our outdoor area. We are looking forward to them flowering next year when the season changes.
Maths - Number Sentences
In Maths we have been learning about the symbols for greater than, less than and equal to. We used lolly sticks and different resources to make lots of number sentences.
Geography - Autumn
As part of our Geography topic we explored our local area looking for signs of Autumn. We talked about deciduous trees and evergreen trees and identified them during our walk.
We are going to observe the enormous oak tree over the next few months and look for the seasonal changes that take place.
