We were faced with a big scientific question – ‘Why do unsupported objects fall towards earth?’ Finding out about gravity was really interesting! We investigated the effects of air resistance and friction that act between moving surfaces.
In our experiments we discovered that some mechanisms, including levers, pulleys and gears allow a smaller force to have a greater effect.
We researched different types of bridges using the internet. Our bridge designs had to be fit for purpose and be able to take a heavy weight. Looking at different truss patterns helped us to design our own bridge. The beams had a very important role to play. Our bridge designs were all different and some were more successful than others…
